Hi Monk,
thanks for signing me up. i've been looking at Gruit ales on the net a bit and i'm pritty keen to try one and get it ready for winter as i think it would be a colder climate type ale.
i was wondering if you have tired anything like this before. i guess i'm interested in looking into Unhoped ales and Hows they where made as they seemed to be how beer in Europe was made for centuries before Hops came into common use mainly due to religion.

this seems to be a great start to look at basic info has a good little bit of history to.
Yarrow, Wild rosemary, Bog myrtle seem to be a common ingredient for bittering etc for gruit ale.
wild rosemary is probably the easiest but others herbs i'm not so sure.
have you done anything like this before?
