Like beer, cider made from fresh raw ingredients tastes better than cider made from a kit. If you have a big old appletree in your backyard the basic ingredients are free! So give that appletree some TLC!
Apples are much harder than grapes, so we need to do some work, coring and cutting the apples into segments. If the apples are hard, like Granny Smiths, you might need to run them through a crusher and then through the press.
Crusher, press? I don't have those! But the 'Monk does! We rent these for $25/day or weekend. We also have yeasts and chemicals needed in cidermaking.
There are a couple of little books available from the main bookshops on cider making, so what is stopping you from making some REAL cider or perry?
